 PROPERTIES OF TAPE AND PRIMER
1.Product Construction
Polyethylene tape and primer synthetic primer to be used for anticorrosion wrapping for furnished mild steel natural gas,oil,water piping system as per enclosed the specification in the following:
Inner Tape
This portion consists of two parts:
Adhesive: Inner layer of Butyl Rubber.
Backing: Outer layer of polyethylene(PE) pastic.
The Inner wrap tape be two ply plastic tape consisting of stabilized polyethylene(PE) base of outer layer(backing) with a layer of plastic butyl rubber(adhesive) applied on one side.
The thickness of pladtic base be 0.30-0.40mm.Thickness of butyl rubber be 0.12-0.40mm. The total thickness be 0.40-0.80mm.
The PE backing color be Black.
Outer Tape
This portion consists of two parts as mentioned in inner wrap tape i.e.
The thickness of the butyl rubber be 0.10-0.20mm.
The total thickness of the tape be 0.40-0.64mm.
The PE backing color be White or Black.
Primer
A viscous liquid of petroleum spirit base compatible with the above Inner and outer wrap applied directly on pipe.
The primer consist of butyl rubber and unsaponifiable resins in petroleum spirit and it be compatible with butyl adhesive that is furnished on the inner wrap tapes.
It must he flowing and have the ability to cover voids,pits and welds.The primer must provide an acceptable base for butyl adhesive on the tapes.
